So, been quiet on dA (and elsewhere, really) for a while.  Eh, school has been busy, things have been stressful, and I think we can pretty much agree that it's been a crappy year for everyone.  But, rather than get into all that....


Look!  Sheer gorgeous-ness!  Normally I don't really feature/share things, but I just can't get over how astoundingly beautiful this deviation is.

Hi guys.  Sorry I haven't been around much lately.  My laptop kind of died, which means I haven't been able to process any of my shots or post any of the ones I have finished and waiting.  It also means that I have limited internet access.  Hopefully I can get my laptop fixed soon, but for now I just won't be doing much on DA.  I will try to start commenting more though.  I haven't been trying to ignore you guys, so I'm sorry if that's what it seems like!

I went to an art supply store with the intention of just getting a few more cartridges of red ink for my calligraphy pens, but between my Mum and I, I ended up with a few dip-pens and nibs and some lovely violet ink. Not quite sure how that happened, but at least I have something new to procrastinate with instead of cleaning my room and revising my resume yet again! Hopefully with a bit of practice I'll be able to actually make consistent lines with the new pens, rather than being able to tell where I had to dip my pen again (hint: somewhere between every few letters and every word or so) thanks to the ink changing from faint to bleeding everywhere. It's much easier using a pen with a cartridge! But I'll learn, and in the meantime, I'll just keep on getting ink all over my hands and my page. Then again, I always seem to enjoy having ink stains on my hands, so I don't think I'll mind!

Edit: So, it turns out that when you use a nib that's actually specifically for lettering (and has a reservoir), you don't run out of ink for a few lines, not every few letters, which happens when you use a drawing nib. Derp.

Everything is so much busier than last semseter! Especially since the university is having a massiv open house this weekend, and chem club is putting on an interactive demo lab and a magic show, and therefore chem club is all of the time this week. The magic show will be awesome: Harry Potter meets Iron Chef. I'm Ron! Should be fun.

As is kind of evident, I've been playing with eggshells a lot recently. Not sure why, other than that it's fun and I just realized that the two really old fairy tale books I have sitting on my desk make great backgrounds for tiny subjects.

Would you guys be at all interested in seeing pictures of lichens? Yesterday I went out and climbed trees and identified lichens (the text book for my bio course is a field guide of the Guelph arboretum and surrounding area, so I figured I might as well use it). I didn't take any shots because I don't really like climbing trees with my DSLR (I've done it, and it's doable, but only on an easy climb, and it's awkward), but I was planning to go out again and stay on the ground this time, so I should be able to get some decent shots. Would that be at all interesting?

I love winter! There's so much pretty snow and ice to photograph _{*cough took 95 shots of ice along a creek cough*}, not to mention the fun of lying in snowbanks, rolling down hills, and following animal tracks in the snow.

Of course, having 8 ranks in knowledge nature and 7 ranks in spot makes the whole tracking thing easier. Druids ftw!

It seems like classes this semester are starting off a lot faster than the ones in first semester. Then again, by this point we've already proven that we can survive university classes (seeing as those who couldn't do it already flunked out), so they don't have to try and ease us in.

Anyway, I should be uploading more photos in the next few days (including a few more shots of that ice, if you guys want to see any more), but right now I need to get some sleep before my 8:30 class. Hooray for morning chemistry.
